Newsletter 2/28/16

Hello 2D Families! I hope you enjoyed your February vacation. I enjoyed the week traveling with family. I am so excited to get back to school to see my dragonflies and to continue our learning. Information about our new unit in reading was sent home in Friday folders. We will be starting our Fairy Tale Unit and students will be asked to work at home to get to know one fairy tale very well. Your child will then dress up as the main character and partake in the second grade Fairy Tale Wax Museum at the end of the unit. Please review the information and send in your child's first three choices of fairy tales to me by Friday, March 4th. Here is a quick wrap up of our latest week. Have a great last night of vacation!
Read Across America Week
We had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss all week. We had many mystery readers, including Mr. Fosher! We dressed wacky, wore our favorite hats, pajamas, socks and dressed as our favorite characters. To end the week we wore pajamas and read with our favorite stuffed animals. This was an exciting week for the dragonflies because we love our reading time!
Math
We wrapped up with Unit 5 and had so much fun learning how to subtract with number lines, number stories, and different diagrams. We will be coming back to subtraction to review these strategies and go over subtracting with regrouping. We will head into Unit 6 which involves creating and pulling data from graphs. We will start by creating our own classroom data and creating a bar graph. Students will learn what a graph key is and learn how to create their own graphs by analyzing data.
Writing
We created our class fictional story and it is hanging in the hallway on display! The students are so excited about this and truly worked their hardest on their writing and illustrations. We will be moving into persuasive writing next!
Science
We have the Museum of Science coming in tomorrow to present on the states of matter! This will be so great to see and help solidify our learning!
