Newsletter 2/12/16

Greetings 2D Families! We had such a fun week of learning in our classroom last week. This coming week will be an exciting one as well! It is Read Across America Week and all week we will be participating in school wide events.
Monday- Wear crazy socks for Fox in Socks Day
Tuesday- Wear your favorite hat for Cat in the Hat Day
Wednesday- Wear mismatched closes for Wacky Wednesday
Thursday- Dress up as your favorite book character for Theodore Geisel Day
Friday- Wear Pajamas for Curl Up and Read Day
Let's See how wacky 2D can get!

Here are a few highlights from the week!
Reading
We continue to work on taking notes of our reading and learning to talk about our reading and the questions we have in shares and through partnerships. This coming week we will be working with partners and recording our thinking after each chapter to help our comprehension as we get into tricker and longer books!
Word Work
I saw a huge improvement this week on the word test. The students are doing such a nice job with Spelling City and their word work centers. Please encourage your child to use it at home as our words change weekly. Also, students should be studying their weekly word wall words too!
Math
We are almost ready to wrap up and test in math. We have been working so hard on strategies for addition and subtraction with bigger numbers. Students have been working with word problems that contain different units, such as lbs and inches. Students have been looking at the change in weight of fish in word problems and solving problems about money. We continue to work on open number lines!
Valentine's Day
Thank you so much for providing snacks for our Valentine's Day celebration. The students had such a great time and we were able to enjoy some amazing snacks. We exchanged valentines and spent time with our book buddies doing some word work! We were so lucky to have three mystery readers this week. Thank you so much for taking the time to read to us!
