Newsletter 4-8-16

Greetings 2D Families. We had such a busy week in the dragonfly class last week. Here is a wrap up of all of the excitement. Thank you for coming to the wax museum and for making the day so special. The Dragonflies did such an amazing job and they were so proud of themselves. We were wiped after that morning! This coming Wednesday, April 13th is an early release due to family/teacher conferences. Have a great week and thank you for all that you do!
Reading
The students worked so hard putting together all of our new knowledge we have learned about fairy tales and using it to compare with different stories. The students also enjoyed acting out fairy tales this week and looking at the difference between fairy tales written long ago and the Disney versions. We of course, rehearsed for our wax museum. The Dragonflies took their rehearsal times very seriously.
Writing
We finished up our persuasive writing unit and enjoyed sharing our writing with our peers and trying to convince other second graders and friends to read the books that we have enjoyed so much. We will now enter into our new poetry unit!
Math
We continue to work on graphing, subtraction strategies, word problem strategies, longer number sentences and measuring! The students are working on their skills of measuring and their accuracy. We have been talking about some different units such as inches, centimeters, yards and meters. We will strengthen our knowledge over the next week!
Wax Museum
Our wax museum was a huge success. The students were able to talk about their characters and answer questions that visitors asked. I was blown away by their confidence and their hard work throughout the morning. Thank you for your help with the costumes and making this day special for us. On Thursday we had Father Time and Dot the Fairy come to visit us in our classroom, this was so magical and got us very excited for the wax museum.
Dragonfly News
We are in need of disinfecting wipes, plastic spoons, and tissues! We go through all of these things so fast. We would appreciate any donations!
