Newsletter 4-1-16

Hello 2D Families! Happy April, minus the snow! I hope you had a wonderful and safe weekend. Here is an update of our week in 2D.
Reading/Writing
As you know, we are preparing for our wax museum. We have been practicing and creating writing so that we are ready to show off all of our knowledge when our families and members of our school community come into our classroom to support us. Please continue to work with your child at home in preparation for the wax museum. Whether it is practicing or working on their costume, we appreciate all you do! The wax museum is this Friday, at 9:00-9:45. If there are siblings in the school that would like to come see a dragonfly in the wax museum, they are able to come down from 10:15-11:00. We have also been working on analyzing characters and writing persuasively about our reading. We also started our "reading selfies" this week. The students loved going to the selfie center and talking about their reading with the ipads.
Math
We have been working on subtraction, becoming experts at word problems and creating graphs by analyzing data. We have also been working on creating number sentences based off of the word problems we read. The students are doing such a nice job with our new math unit. We will also be having a place value review center in math weekly to help strengthen our addition and subtraction skills!
Science
Our next unit coming up in science is all about plants! We will be growing plants in our classroom and looking at them closely. This will be an exciting unit as we enter into Spring! The students will be asked to observe plants in their yards and neighborhoods as everything starts blooming!
April Fools Day
No, we didn't get brownies after lunch but we did get brown E's! :)

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Wednesday April 6th and Wednesday April 13th are early release days due to teacher/family conferences. It was so great meeting with many of you already and I can't wait to meet with everyone else soon! The Fairy Tale Wax Museum is this Friday the 8th, we can't wait to show off all of our knowledge! Safe Travels in the snow!
