New Year, Same Brains! 😁

Hello Everyone! 

 I hope your new year is off to a fantastic start. It was so great seeing family over break and getting ready for this new year ahead of us! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making 2D's Got Talent as special as it was. We couldn't have made such a large donation to the SPCA without you! The sttudents loved having you in our room and it was a great way for them to feel that they can make a difference! December was so busy and it has been incredibly nice easing back into things as a classroom family. We came to school this week, focusing on expectations in our classroom as well as ourselves as learners. This second half of the year is all about ownership (and ofcourse hard work), you will see your dragonfly take the wheel of their learning and become confident in all that they know and want to learn! 

With the new year, we are also entering into new units! Students will begin studying the beginning phases of multiplication and division through grouping and arrays. We will be starting a big overearching unit of "cause and effect" that will connect in all subject areas and cover competencies to expand understanding of this concept. We will transition from studying characters to looking at the ways author's write books and the ways they guide us to think. Students will also be writing fiction stories and working on the art of planning, organizing, and writing for an audience. These are all very exciting areas to be learning about and I can't wait to see how the students rock it! 

Heads Up!

As we wrap up our character study unit, we are ofcourse going to celebrate! On Friday, January 11th we will be having a charactere soiree. Students will use all of the information they have gathered about the character they have been studying and be invited to act like them as we play games and enjoy each other's company! Students may dress up like their character for the day, or bring clothes to change in to! Dressing up is optional but maybe your dragonfly can practice some acting at home before the party!

Our Second Grade Wax Museum will be the celebration of our "cause and effect" unit. This is a change from previous years, where students studied fairy tales. We will be studying some "world changers" through biograhies and students will come to life as the person of their choice for the wax museum. There will be more informaion to come on this soon!
